METRO Highlights of Interest to Fort Bend County
July 11, 2006
With Missouri City officials at the July 10th meeting of the Governmental Relations Division of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce is Karen Marshall, Director of Community Outreach, External Affairs Division with the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Houston (METRO). Marshall presented an overview of the history of METRO and other facts of interest to Fort Bend County leaders. METRO’s $2 billion Phase 2 Implementation Plan announced last year is for the provision of more rapid transit for the Houston region and includes a component comprised of 28 miles of commuter rail transit (CRT) that will impact this area. It is proposed to run along U.S. 290 from Cypress Park and Ride to Intermodal Facility and along U.S. 90A from Missouri City to the Fannin South Park and Ride/Rail station.

In order to accomplish this key component, METRO will need a private partnership, reports Marshall. With Marshall (2nd from left) are (l-r) Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen, Frank Simpson, City Manager; and Bob Graf, Economic Development Coordinator.
